September 25 – 28, 2018, the All-Russian Scientific Conference “Seas of Russia: Research Methods, Tools and Results” was held at Marine Hydrophysical Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Sevastopol) and the Black Sea Hydrophysical Polygon (Katsiveli). The conference was organized by: Federal State Budgetary Scientific Institution “Marine Hydrophysical Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences” (FSBSI MHI), Federal State Budgetary Scientific Institution “The Black Sea Hydrophysical Polygon of RAS” and the Section of Oceanology, Atmospheric Physics and Geography of the Department of Earth Sciences of the Russian Academy Sciences supported by the Russian Foundation for Basic Research under Project No. 18-05-20079 G and the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation.
The conference was aimed to analyze the current level and results of studies of physical, geological, biogeochemical and environmental processes in the seas of Russia, discuss key areas of research and development that ensure the scientific and technical development of the marine sector of the Russian economy, including the technological and environmental safety of nature management.
The opening of the conference took place on September 25 on the basis of the Black Sea Hydrophysical Polygon of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Katsiveli). Within the first conference day framework, a seminar of the Oceanology, Atmospheric Physics and Geography Section of the Department of Earth Sciences of RAS was held in the conference hall of the Polygon.
The conference was attended by more than 150 scientists from 54 scientific organizations of Russia. Among them except the specialists in oceanology, marine physics, geography, ocean geology, biogeochemistry, marine information systems and maritime law, were the leaders in the field of oceanological research recognized by the world community are academicians, corresponding members and professors of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The conference was organized in the form of plenary, sectional and poster presentations in the following areas: theoretical research and numerical modeling in oceanology; methods, tools and results of interdisciplinary research of marine systems; current state and actual problems of information support of fundamental and applied problems of oceanology. During the plenary and breakout sessions 125 reports were read over and 42 reports were presented as part of the poster session.
According to the results of the contest for the best report among young scientists, the winners were: Pavel Lobovikov, graduate student of the Nizhny Novgorod State Technical University; Igor Kozlov, senior research associate of Marine Hydrophysical Institute, Ph.D.; Vladislav Evstigneev, senior research associate of Sevastopol State University, Ph.D. Works of two Marine Hydrophysical Institute employees - Alexander Latushkin and Alexander Fedirko were recognized as the best poster presentations were recognized.
