Published: December 11, 2019

The All-Russian Scientific Conference “The Seas of Russia: Research of the Coastal and Offshore Zones” (the 28th Coastal Conference) will be held on the basis of Federal State Budgetary Scientific Institution Federal Research Center "Marine Hydrophysical Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences" on September 21–25, 2020. Its purpose is to discuss topical issues of multidisciplinary research of shelf and coastal zones of the Russian seas, aimed at solving the issues of their development and scientifically based nature management. Holding of this conference continues the traditions laid down in 1952 by the 1st Coastal Conference, which approved the creation of the Coastal Section of the Interagency Oceanographic Commission of the USSR Academy of Sciences (now the Sea Shores Working Group).

The conference will be organized in the form of plenary, section and poster presentations. It is supposed to discuss the following main issues, divided into three large blocks as follows:

Block 1

  1. Geography, geology, geomorphology, hydro- and geochemistry and paleogeography.
  2. Oceanography, operational oceanography, satellite oceanology and GIS.
  3. Hydrodynamics and morpholithodynamics.
  4. Mathematical modeling of natural processes and anthropogenic impact.
  5. Climate change effect.
  6. Monitoring of natural and anthropogenic processes, instruments and research methods.

Block 2

  1. Problems of the theory and coast protection practice.
  2. Safety and maintenance of beaches and recreation areas.
  3. Planning and management of coastal tourism, ecotourism and recreation.
  4. Legal, economic and social issues, the integration of science and politics.
  5. Underwater archeology.

Block 3

  1. Coastal ecosystems: biology, ecology and management.
  2. Coastal landscapes, coastal and marine protected areas.
  3. Coastal wetlands, dunes, estuaries, deltas and lagoons.
  4. Bioresources, fishing and mariculture.
  5. Environmental sensitivity and anthropogenic load.

After obtaining preliminary applications, section names will be formulated. The organizing committee reserves the right to determine the report presentation type at the conference: plenary, sectional or poster, as well as their distribution in sections.

For participation in the conference the specialists whose activities are aimed at studying natural and social processes in the coastal and shelf zones of the Russian seas are invited.
