The Decade of Ocean Sciences has been launched by the United Nations for sustainable development (2021-2030). The Decade's activities aim to mobilise the scientific community and responsible policymakers, business and civil society to implement a programme of collaborative research and technological innovations. One of these planned activities will be the All-Russian Scientific Conference "Seas of Russia", which is held annually at the Marine Hydrophysical Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The aim of the Conference is to improve coordination of marine research programmes, advance marine observing systems, develop scientific capacity, optimise marine planning and reduce marine risks to improve management of marine and coastal resources. This is in line with the strategic objective of the UN Decade of Science to maintain a healthy ocean ecosystem for the future of humanity. The Marine Hydrophysical Institute has already received confirmation from the United Nations as to inclusion of the "Seas of Russia" conference in the major event schedule of the Decade. The Federal Research Centre "Marine Hydrophysical Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences" is recognised as a UN's official partner in implementation of the Decade of Ocean Sciences.
